- The Wet Well
- This is the underground chamber where wastewater collects. Inside the wet well are submersible pumps, floats or level sensors, guide rails, and hardware that control pump operation.
- The Control System
- Above ground is the electrical control panel that manages pump cycles, alternation, alarms, and emergency response. If the panel or level sensors fail, the station cannot operate safely.
- Pump-down test (drawing down the wet well)
- Check pump start/stop levels
- Inspect float switches or level sensors
- Assess pumps for performance, vibration, and power draw
- Inspect guide rails, lifting chains, and hardware
- Identify grease accumulation, solids, or blockages
- Inspect wet well walls and structural integrity
- Inspect control panel enclosure and interior components
- Test pump run lights, alarms, and indicators
- Verify pump alternation (Lead/Lag operation)
- Inspect circuit breakers, contactors, relays, and starters
- Test high-level alarm and float response
- Check SCADA/telemetry (if applicable)
- Inspect wet well lid, gaskets, and access hatches
- Ensure venting is clear and functional
- Check vacuum/vent lines
- Inspect valve vault and isolation valves
- Evaluate site drainage around lift station
- Confirm proper signage and safety clearance
- Shut down water supply
- Perform differential pressure testing
- Inspect valves, checks, springs, and reliefs
- Document readings
- Submit test report to the proper utility
- Restore service
- Wet well washing and degreasing
- Removal of solids and debris
- Pump cleaning and lubrication
- Valve exercise and inspection
- Control panel cleaning
- Replacement of worn floats, sensors, or components
